Can you tell us what unnecessary files are the heaviest on your Mac? Could you quickly find them when cleaning up and safely delete them without hesitation? You can check it the following way:
- Go to System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy
- Then, press + button and add your drive to the folders list prevented from indexing.
- Reboot the device and get back to Spotlight settings: this time, delete your drive from the privacy list. It will launch the program and it may slow down the system until the process is completed.
- After completion, you will get a more accurate updated info about your storage space.
- Press quit button.
Other files storage is probably the most confusing option. Apple explains it as the files that Mac cannot recognize as belonging to any other category. Obviously, this is not clear enough. When you enable the option Optimize Storage you will see something called Purgeable Storage. Please note that purgeable files may be downloaded again on your request. There is actually no need to learn tips on cleaning purgeable storage on Mac: it is usually done automatically.
